We know how important (and difficult!) it is to choose colour so we wanted to make it easier on our customers choosing Annie Sloan chalk paints. We've been busy creating a new display to show off all the wonderful Annie Sloan colours. Take a peek at all the details of our new display. For the panelling: To make our display we used tongue and groove panelling at the base. Annie Sloan paints don't need a primer for use on woodwork, so you could go straight on with the chosen paint colour, however since we were going onto MDF we wanted to prime to fully seal the wood. For the top coat we chose a deep purple, Tyrian Plum, and painted this onto the panelling.
We applied two coats to get the desired depth of colour we were after. Once dry, we used Annie Sloan's chalkpaint wax to buff the finish. The wax can be applied using several methods such as: wire wool, cotton cloth or a brush. We began by using a cloth but as the video below demonstrates the furniture brush really added the shine to the piece.
For the colour swatches:
We wanted to showcase all the vibrant colours of Annie Sloan paints accurately beyond the colour card, so we used the wooden paint mixers as a creative way to do so. Lee painted up all the swatches in every colour so we have the full range on display in our shop in Witney. These swatches are fully removable from the board so customers can remove them to build colour schemes within the shop. In addition to all the colours on display we also have different technique examples on the board as well. We have showcased crackle effect, mixing colours to create your own, stencilling, freehand drawing, frottage, distressed as well as gold leaf effect.
Finishing touches: Once the panelling and colour swatches were completed Steve and Connor put the board up, a shelf was added to finalise the display. Annie Sloan also have furniture brushes, rollers, stencil sets and wax brushes so the team made one final section to display all these other wonderful DIY products. Annie Sloan paints are perfect for at-home projects, painting wooden furniture, adding illustrative designs to wooden doors and trims – the possibilities are endless. And as Annie says 'Paint everything'...and have fun doing so!
