It's the season for interior floors
As the longer days draw to a close and we naturally spend a bit more of our evenings inside, people tend to start thinking about their interior flooring. Late summer and early autumn are the perfect times for redoing or refreshing interior floors, as the weather is still warm and temperatures haven't dropped too much.
When it comes to flooring finishes, we have a few products that are perfect for the job.
With each of these products, please seek further guidance from their specific product data sheets. All wooden surfaces are different, and products should be tested before use. Correct preparation and conditions are crucial to achieving the best final results. Make sure products are left to fully cure between coats and before using the space. And, as always, feel free to head to our shop or give us a call to chat through the products and your specific project. We're always on hand to help.
Osmo Polyx-Oil Overview: A hardwax oil which will provide the most durable and hardwearing finish for your interior floors. This product is water and dirt resistant, including resistance to spillages such as juice, tea and wine, to name a few. The product is designed to be a breathable finish, meaning cracking, flaking and bubbling of the finish will not happen if it is applied correctly. This product gives a transparent wood colour finish, meaning it will enhance your floors and let their natural wood texture remain. This product will give you beautiful, natural-looking floors in a sheen of your preference, and you can know they are fully protected from everyday wear and tear. Finish options: This product is designed to enhance the natural character of the wood. The product is available in clear finishes, including Matt, Satin and Gloss. It is also a product that is tintable to a vast array of transparent colours if you're looking to add a bit more colour to your floors, for example, darkening them. Application: Before beginning to use Polyx-Oil, ensure the surface is clean and dry. The product will be ready to use as it is, but it is always recommended to give it a stir to ensure an even consistency throughout. The product can be applied using a brush, hand pad or microfibre roller, whatever your personal preference. Two coats of this product will be needed, and it must be applied thinly. Do not over-apply the product. When using the oil, follow the grain of the wood and make sure the product is spread out well. Osmo products in general go a long way and cover well. Pros: This product is long-lasting and hardwearing. As with oils, spot touch-ups are easy to do by reapplying the product to affected areas without the need for sanding. Osmo Wood Wax Finish
Overview: Overview: This product gives excellent all-round protection for interiors. As with the Polyx-Oil, the Wood Wax Finish is durable and hardwearing, water and dirt resistant (including resistance to common spillages). The finish is breathable and child-safe. You might consider using the Wood Wax Finish underneath the Polyx-Oil if you're looking for a more pigmented finish, as both transparent and intensive colours can be tinted into this product. For areas such as floors that are high-traffic, one coat of Wood Wax Finish is recommended, followed by a coat of the Polyx-Oil in a clear finish. This will offer maximum durability. Never apply more than two coats of Osmo oils. Finish options: This product comes in a Satin finish for both the transparent colours and many opaque colours. The wood grain will remain visible with the transparent colours and can become more hidden with darker intensive colour tones. Application: As with the Polyx-Oil, the surface should be clean and dry, including being free from sanding dust. All old paint and finishes should be completely removed. It is also important to sand to a correct grain; begin with a coarse sandpaper and, for final sanding for floors, use P120-P150. This will ensure the floor surface is prepared optimally to take the oil. The product is ready to use and should not be thinned, but should be stirred well before using. The product can be applied using a brush, hand pad or microfibre roller, whatever your personal preference. Make sure only two thin coats are applied - one of the Wood Wax Finish and a final top coat of a clear Polyx-Oil for flooring projects. Pros: So many colours to choose from. A long-lasting protective finish for interior floors. As with oils, spot touch-ups are easy to do by reapplying the product to affected areas without the need for sanding. Liberon Floor Wax Overview: This product gives a beautiful finish to wooden floors as it feeds and protects the wood. You might want to use this product if you are after a more traditional finish. This product will provide a soft, mellow shine over products such as hardwax oils. An ideal product if aesthetics are a higher priority than maximum hardwearing qualities (although floors will be protected against daily wear and tear). If pets or young children are present, this product won't be the most suitable. Finish options: This product gives a traditional and natural soft sheen. Regular re-buffing will continually restore the appearance of the wooden floor. Additional coats can be applied until your desired sheen is achieved. Application: Floors must be sanded, and all previous products must be removed before using Liberon Floor Wax. They must also be clean and dry and free of dust. Make sure you shake the product well before using. Coats should be applied thinly using a brush or cloth, whatever your personal preference. Ensure the product is properly worked into the wood grain. Follow the direction of the grain and remove excess product. Allow approximately 30 minutes after the first coat and then buff with a cotton cloth. Further coats can be applied until you are happy with the sheen. Please note, some surfaces might be more porous and therefore require more coats. In many instances, Liberon Floor Sealer is recommended for use first before applying the Floor Wax. This will help protect the timber even more against daily wear and tear (allow the product to fully harden before using the Floor Wax). Pros: The product is quick drying and is not sticky. Although more regular maintenance may be required in high-traffic areas, such as re-buffing and reapplication, it is easy to maintain. Additional notes: Liberon Floor Cleaner can be used first to clean a build-up of old products and dirt before then using the Floor Sealer and Floor Wax. The Floor Cleaner can also be used to clean the floors and remove stubborn marks (never use water) before reapplying the Floor Wax. This product is not suitable for bathrooms, for example, as water is more likely to get onto the surface (choose instead the Liberon Floor Oil).
